First Post - a Corker Durkee

My wife had this idea that I should start a blog, where I share photos of my antique bottles along with a story telling the significance of each one.  It sounded like a nice idea.
This photo shows a pair of sample bottles, one I purchased on eBay (the aqua Dr. Wistar's) and an amethyst Durkee, which I inherited from my brother, Greg.  This blog will feature Greg quite a bit.  Two years my junior, he is the one who got me into bottles when I was 13.
Greg had the Durkee in his collection as long as I can remember, and to this day it is the only cork-topped sample size Durkee I've ever seen.  It is a beautiful sun colored purple from the days when there were only naturally colored bottles (pre-electric light UV bombardment and other types of irradiation).

We grew up in San Diego, where the sun was plenty powerful enough to turn manganese glass violet in fifty years.  A couple of dandy small bottles and a fine start to the blog.
